I've been away for a while moving twice, selling two condos, remodeling, and purchasing a new home. Whew... I wasn't able to pick up the bass for while. Here's another pattern for you to learn that's quite simple. This is called the Conga pattern or also known as Comparsa. There's many parts to this ryhthm, but for the sake of playing it on your own then learn the pattern this way.

Here's a nice pattern that you can learn that's different than Son, Mambo, or other types of basic patterns that most beginners learn. This rhythm is called Timba.
